The last few episodes were great for examining the emotional and mental strength of Hannibal. I’ll take the example of pain here.
When Hannibal is surprised by pain like when Jack beat him up, he reacts like any other human being.
His body twitches,
his face changes
his hand shakes
But when he expects pain like in the scene with Mason and the knife or Cordell and the branding he has almost complete control over his reactions.
It’s obvious that he still feels the pain but he doesn’t show it.
A hook in the legs is probably about as painful as a branding on the back. Still his reactions are completely different. It could also be that he ALLOWS Jack to see his pain. He grants him that gift while he denies it Mason and Cordell.
